Meet Dr. Sanches

Dr. Stephen Sanches is a Baton Rouge native who came home to care for the kids of the city he grew up in. After graduating from Catholic High School and earning his biology degree at LSU, he completed medical school at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans and his pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital New Orleans. He returned to Baton Rouge in 2012.

Dr. Sanches is board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP). As an overseeing physician for Red Stick Pediatrics, he helps make sure every child at our Tara Blvd clinic gets care that meets AAP standards.

Parents know him for a relaxed, partnership-style approach. He wants families to ask questions, and he’s happy to give both his “doctor advice” and his “dad advice.” Kids know him as the doctor who isn’t afraid to be a little goofy. Baton Rouge parents have noticed. Readers of Baton Rouge Parents Magazine voted him Family Favorite Pediatrician in 2022 and 2024, and runner-up in 2023.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Sanches is married to his high school sweetheart, Kathryn, and they’re raising four children in Baton Rouge. He’s a devoted exercise fan, an aspiring home chef, and, in his words, he “bleeds purple and gold.”

What Do "Board-Certified" and "FAAP" Mean?

  • Board-certified pediatrician: A doctor who finished a pediatric residency and passed the American Board of Pediatrics exam. Board-certified pediatricians must keep learning and re-certify throughout their careers.
  • FAAP (Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics): A board-certified pediatrician who is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the national group that sets care standards for children’s health in the U.S.
