Our Story

Our Story: From Old Hammond Pediatrics to Red Stick Pediatrics

Red Stick Pediatrics began in 2007 as Old Hammond Pediatrics, a neighborhood clinic caring for children in the heart of Baton Rouge.

As the practice grew, so did the families we served. They came from across the capital region: Prairieville, Zachary, Central, Denham Springs, and beyond. We took the name Red Stick Pediatrics to reflect that. "Red Stick" is the English meaning of Baton Rouge, and this practice belongs to the whole city.

One thing has never changed. From our first day, we've welcomed Medicaid families as the center of our practice, not as an afterthought. Many of the parents who walk through our door have been turned away or rushed through visits elsewhere. At Red Stick Pediatrics, they find providers who take time, explain clearly, and treat their child like the most important patient of the day.

What Makes Red Stick Pediatrics Different

19+

Years caring for Baton Rouge kids

  • Built for Medicaid families. Many clinics "take" Medicaid. We built our practice around it. You'll never feel like a second-class patient here.
  • Newborn to teen, under one roof. From your baby's first checkup to your teen's sports physical, including ADHD and asthma care, your child's whole health history lives in one place.
  • Services you won't find everywhere. Like sterile ear piercing by trained clinical staff, starting at 9 months. No mall kiosk required.
  • Familiar faces. Your child sees providers who know their name and their story. Meet Rachael Simms, NP →
  • Saturday mornings. Open Saturdays 9 AM–12 PM for working parents and weekend sick days.
